News from the Botanical Society of America

The Department of Plant Biology will be well represented at the joint Botany & Mycology meeting in Snowbird, Utah. Among the participants is Karl Niklas, who is the current President of the Botanical Society of America, and James Cohen, who is a graduate student Director on the BSA Board of Directors as well as this year’s winner of the Triarch (Conant) Botanical Images student travel award. This award provides travel support for outstanding student work in the area of creating digital botanical images.  Jim is working on the systematics of Lithospermum (Boraginaceae) and the evolution of heterostyly under the direction of Jerry Davis.

In addition, Ed Cobb has organized (once again) a breakfast gathering for all Cornellians during the BSA meetings.  So, please don’t forget to sign up for the Cornell breakfast, which will be held on Monday July 27 at 7-8 AM.  The location will be announced in the conference proceedings.  Please join us to renew old friendships, make new friends, and learn about the activities of all of your colleagues.
